A strong and capable negotiation is augmented by the ability to litigate whenever necessary.

Mark H. Swerdloff

For more than 35 years, Attorney Mark H. Swerdloff has been practicing law in Connecticut. His practice focuses on representing people in family law cases, victims of sexual abuse and victims of legal malpractice. He has successfully negotiated and litigated cases in every district of the State of Connecticut.

Attorney Swerdloff has represented survivors of sexual abuse in claims against abusers and institutions that failed to protect victims. In one case, as the result of his professional and vigorous representation, the victim was awarded a judgment of $12.5 million dollars which was, at that time, the largest judgment ever awarded in such a case in the state of Connecticut. He caused the perpetrator to lose real estate, money and vehicles. Attorney Swerdloff has represented clients in dissolution of marriage actions with issues involving both custody and finances. He has effectively mediated, negotiated and litigated cases dealing with short-term marriages with few assets as well as cases with multimillion dollar marital estates. He has successfully represented clients regarding custody issues including assisting clients to develop and implement cooperative parenting plans. He has also represented clients in difficult cases of parental alienation, custodial interference, and parental relocation.

Ileen P. Swerdloff (Retired)

Attorney Ileen P. Swerdloff was a member in good standing of the Connecticut Bar Association and The Hartford County Bar Assocation. The firm is Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Rated BV - Distinguished For Very High Ethical Standards and Legal Ability.

Attorney Swerdloff's practice focused on Family Law including but not limited to issues regarding child support, child custody property division, debt allocation and alimony. She was experienced as a family lawyer who recognized the importance of family.

Attorney Swerdloff believed that a dissolution leads to the re-structuring of a family, not the destruction of a family. She was very mindful in every case requiring a division of assets and allocation of debt – that two families cannot live as well separately as together. Having had experience as a Social Worker prior to putting herself through law school, Attorney Swerdloff has a depth of understanding regarding the needs of families in crisis. Her goal was to provide clients with thorough, well crafted parenting plans in an effort to reduce the possibility of having to return to court for modifications. Further, she made every effort to assure that a dissolution was the best possible under the totality of circumstances presented by individual cases. She considered tax consequences, lifestyle and the special needs of each client, and sought to provide a result that would lead to a happily ever after post-divorce life. She prefered to resolve cases collaboratively and cooperatively, but when that was not possible, she was prepared to vigorously pursue all matters.

In addition to having had a statewide practice, she was admitted to practice in The United States Supreme Court and the United States District Court District of Connecticut.

In 1979, at a time when the practice of law was far from welcoming to women, she was among the first women lawyers in in Connecticut to successfully develop an active criminal and civil litigation practice. Her husband of 46 years, Mark H. Swerdloff, has also been her law partner for over 35 years.

Swerdloff served on the Board of Directors of Greater Hartford Legal Aid, The Hartford Stage Company, and RealArtWays. She was an Elector at the Wadsworth Athenaeum.
